2017: year of the rooster, ‘fake news’ and Corbynistas.
It’s been a busy one, but we’ve embraced the pace and ended the year feeling fantastic. Here’s what happened this year at Salience.
A Bigger Team
We had 5 human new starters this year and a canine. Kicking us off in January was our latest Content Marketing Executive, Gemma. Dave L came next, originally doing some freelance developing for us and bringing with him the sassiest dog we’ve ever known, Chewy. They were both made official IO gang members in August as Web Developer and Junior Office Manager.
April brought us a new role of Data Executive in Martyn. And finally, we welcomed James (AKA Big Jimmy) our newest Digital Designer and completed our dev team with Ash who became our new Head of Web Development.
With all those new starters we’d outgrown our office on St John Street. It took weeks and months of blood, sweat and tears from Coops but we got there in the end. And the result is marvellous. We even have our very own cube. And beer taps…
It was sad saying goodbye to our St John Street home, but we’ve settled in perfectly at Newgate House. Bring on the client meetings!
Happy 8th Birthday!
Salience (formerly Inside Online) turned 8. And what do all 8-year-olds want for their birthday? That’s right, a kids’ party. We had a piñata, party bags and party hats… which all went down swimmingly after we’d had a few drinks.

We’ve been out and about for both work and play this year.
Our final learning jaunt of the year came in November when Nate and Courtney hit Manchester (again) for Conversion Elite. They were treated to talks from various CRO experts and said their favourite was Craig Sullivan of Optimal Visit.
All work and no play makes IO a dull office. With this in mind, we got out to do some stuff this year.
In March we decided to lock ourselves in rooms and try to break out within 60 minutes. No, we haven’t all gone mad, we just visited Escapism Chester. Most of us managed to solve the puzzles, but some of our teammates would still be there if we hadn’t rescued them…
In the spookiest month of the year, October, we took ourselves to a haunted farm and ran through mazes of evil spirits. Again, not mad, just Farmageddon. We survived without losing anyone to the meat factory, just about.
And the nomination goes to…
OK, so we hate to brag but this year we were nominated for 8 awards across 5 award platforms for 4 different clients. Not all the award winners have been announced yet but so far, we’ve managed to bag ourselves a Bronze at the CMA Awards for Best Use of SEO for Dreams’ Sleep Matters Club!

Brett had a wedding, a baby and went viral
Our Content Director Brett had a very big year in 2017. Not only did he get married to his lovely significant other, Emma, he also became a dad for the second time. Baby Poppy was born at home on 14th November with lots of help from her dad (and mum, obviously!). Big congratulations all round to the whole family.
If you know Brett you’ve probably already heard about his 1 Second Every Day video which went viral this October when George Takei posted it on Facebook. It’s since gained over 1.2 million views.
