Brands Ranked
Update February 2022
Unlike with our other reports, we’ve taken a much wider scope to this market. Sourcing brands that rank well across the following core categories:
We’ve chosen to do this as there is a lot of obvious overlap between these categories. You can find previous report’s we’ve run on Hi-Fi, Computers & Home Appliances here.
If you filter out to just Hi-Fi brands, you’ll find richersounds.com to host the greatest overall online visibility. Growing 5% YoY and taking the overall 8th market position.
Scan.com takes the cake here. Sitting in 9th just behind richersounds.com. A very positive year overall for Scan, growing a tidy 10% YoY. The next closest competitor is box.co.uk, a less glowing year for Box, losing out on 30% of their organic visibility.
Camera tech, a sector we’ve never covered before sees Cannon.co.uk take a strong lead over the next best competitors Jessops & Nikon. Cannon, holds 7th in the market overall, growing 10% YoY, though this is 5% less than the average growth in the market (14%).
As you can imagine, these are the big boys in the marketplace. Just on the size of sites their winning, at least in terms of visibility score. To give you some perspective, 11 of the multi-category retailers out of the top 100, 6 are in the overall top ten.
Good reviews are a real pride thing for brands. No difference in consumer electronics. Leading the way for the whole market is E-Spares.co.uk. Though it’s worth noting they are only just edging out ao.com on the leader board. Here’s how close the scores are:
SITE | Review score | No. reviews | Ranking |
espares.co.uk | 4.7 | 323312 | 1 |
ao.com | 4.6 | 330079 | 2 |
It’ll be interesting to see who’s winning this race in 2023.
Staple British` electronics brand Currys tops the chart as most Googled consumer electronics brand by huge margins. The brand claims a whopping 4 million monthly brand searches. 3.5million more than the next most popular brand ao.com.
Ok, admittedly, Samsung is definitely cheating here. They’ve been around since the late 60’s, selling electronics across the globe, whatever room you’re in there’s probably some sort of Samsung tech with you. Nevertheless, this super brand has easily taken our top spot in the social following, amassing a huge 164 million social followers across Twitter Facebook & Instagram.
Russel Hobs & Audio Dot have made a huge impression in organic visibility over the last 12 months. Russel Hobs has climbed 22 places (from position 66 to 44) & Audio Dot has climbed 26 places (from 76 to 50).
